Chapter 12
âGuardians?â Telara asked. âPam has called us that a few times.â
âYes.â Lucius nodded. âThat is what you seven are.â
âWhat does it mean?â Vanna crossed her legs on the ottoman she was sitting on.
âIt means a lot of things, but mostly it means you are to be the saviors or guardians as you will of Sanctuary.â
Telara frowned at Lucius. âWe are to be the Saviors of Sanctuary? I thought we were just here to learn how to use our powers to defend ourselves from the shadow creatures?â
Lucius took a deep breath and spoke with a very grave tone of voice causing them all to go silent. âWhile I have told you no lies; I have not been entirely truthful with you.â He stood up and walked over to the big window. âThe role of Sanctuary is as I told you; we teach the descendants and train them to fight the shadow creatures you have all seen. We provide a home and security to the mythicals that may not be as abundant as ancient Greek time, but we keep the ones who still live alive. That is, in essence, the role of Sanctuary, but the role of a Guardian is more.â Lucius walked back over to this desk and looked at a vase that had etchings of people and animals all around. He looked as if he was trying to put his thoughts into words. Like he was afraid to say something wrong and scare them off.
âWe havenât left yet.â Telara pointed out causing Lucius to whip his head around to stare at her in shock. âI canât read your thoughts if that is what you are thinking but you had a very intense look on your face. Like you were trying to figure out what to say without scaring us off.â
Lucius gave a short chuckle. âYea I guess I was.â He sat down behind his desk and linked his fingers together before speaking. âTo understand what your role is as Guardians I will need to give you the history of Sanctuary.â
âThe Sanctuary has been around since the times of ancient Greek Gods.â Lucius held up his hand as it seemed Telara was about to interrupt. âI understand that you already know that, but to tell you all you need to know I will need to tell you the story again.â
Telara nodded her head in agreement and waited for him to continue. They did not know what they were facing and if it meant hearing a few things twice to learn what they needed; Telara could handle that.
âWhat I am going to tell you here tonight you will find in no history book nor any mythology book in any library.â Lucius absently rubbed his chin as if trying to figure out exactly where to start. âI guess the best place to start would be the beginning before Sanctuary was created.â Lucius took a drink of the water that sat on his desk.
âBack before the Gods disappeared from the land there came a great evil.
